MEET DARRELL RICE
Integrity. Leadership. Results.
Canton City Council Candidate Darrell Rice is a public servant, not a politician, with a strong and successful background in nonprofit work, leadership roles, and helping others.
A long-time city resident and community leader, Darrell wants to put his lifetime of service to work to keep Canton Strong and ensure it remains an excellent hometown for everyone. Darrell is uniquely qualified to represent all the residents of the city in a positive and dignified manner.
As vice president of community revitalization for City of Refuge, an Atlanta-based nonprofit he helped launch in 1997, Darrell knows first-hand the problems families face today. Darrell has a solid record of leading with integrity and getting results.
As a husband, father, nonprofit leader, and pastor, Darrell understands what makes Canton a special place to call home. Darrell believes in collaborative problem-solving, transparency, and straightforward (continued below...)
(...continued from above) communication. By listening to the residents and working together, he wants to find the best solutions.
Darrell has five priorities to keep Canton Strong: control growth responsibly, keep taxes low, strengthen businesses, preserve the quality of life, and communicate and collaborate with residents and other leaders.
In 2023, Rice was elected chair of the Canton Housing Authority, a five-member commission that provides housing for low-income residents, and is building the Tanner Place project, the first new construction of public housing in the city in over 40 years.
Darrell graduated from Lee University with a bachelor’s degree in biblical education in 1976 and from the University of Arkansas with a master’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communication in 1982, where he was chosen “Most Outstanding Graduate Student.”
Most of his career was spent in church administration and local church leadership. Darrell served as Administrative Bishop for the Church of God in Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., as well as in Oklahoma, Kansas, and the Great Lakes Region.
In addition to his significant work as State Youth and Christian Education Director in North Georgia, he served as senior pastor of the Pleasantdale Church of God in Atlanta and resident pastor of the Mount Paran North congregation in Marietta.
Darrell also has a strong background in education, having served in various academic roles, including adjunct faculty at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. He has chaired numerous boards, including the Lee University Board of Directors in Cleveland, Tennessee, and the Mount Paran Christian School Board of Directors in Kennesaw.
He and his wife, Marsha, have lived in Canton for 14 years. They have been married for 51 years and have three adult children: Joshua, who serves as provost and academic dean of Richmond Graduate University in Atlanta; Jennifer, a corporate attorney in Atlanta; and Jill, a full-time mom in Seattle, WA. They are also the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren. Darrell and Marsha make their home in Canton. They reside in the Great Sky neighborhood and are actively involved in their community.
